Project #4 Gallery Talk Documentary

SUNY Cortland sits, isolated, in the middle of New York State. When many people hear “New York,” they assume that we are in the midst of Manhattan, right in the center of one of the cultural capitals of the world. Instead, those opportunities are rare for us, and we are privileged that a visiting artist—a young, up-and-coming international artist is mounting an exhibition. As young artists, I would like to see you interrogate the artist’s methods, question his vision, and learn from him. Ask him about his background, how being a stranger in America influences his work. Does environmental issues figure in? What does he want people to get from the work on display? How can the artist have power over what s/he produces and what the viewer takes in?

This would make a great multi-media piece for NeoVox. Please emphasize the international aspect, but also the UNIVERSAL aspect of what it is to want to create art that reaches people.

You are going to work collaboratively in groups of two. It is your job to catch the essence of the Artist talk with video to be posted on Neovox.

Each group needs to:

  • Shoot video
  • Edit video to 240 x 180 QuickTime short movies (.mov files)
  • Ask the artist 1-2 questions
  • Document answers and overall experience in a written article (to be posted online)
