Project #1 Fairytale Appropriation:

You are going to a time based animation in Flash CS4.  The subject matter pertains to conceptual narrative imagery.  You will pick a fairytale narrative of your choice and create an image-based experience according to your style of storytelling.

The purpose of the project is to help you think in terms of a series of images, to develop provocative narrative imagery. During the course of this project you will develop the use movie clips, movement, drawing with vector tools, principles of animation, camera shots, key framing, incorporating pixel based imagery, sound, animation techniques and work with appropriation techniques.  This project should reveal your personal version of the tale.  The story should serve as a starting point, but not restrict you to making your own version.

I would like you to push yourself past the obvious and literal imagery of your narrative.  Build a conceptual foundation according to your interest in your story. You should consider composition, color, texture, line, focal point, movement, and mood for your images.

Sound should be designed along with the imagery to enhance your narrative.  You can use any form of sound that is applicable such as, voice over, noise, music, ambient sounds or text.

Keep in mind camera angle, perspective, transitions and navigation. You are to create the viewer's experience.  Therefore, think about using timed transitions, fast cuts and perspective.
