Fortune Tellers: Super-sized

As childhood fairy tales push my research. I am interested in games that children play in order to become the storytellers themselves. The fortune teller that I made as a child could have any outcome that I created. I was in complete control of setting the 8 outcomes. These little folded pieces of paper were transformed into a manipulative structure that could be moved from the open to closed position with ease. It is my intention to create larger scale fortune tellers that may not be maneuvered so easily. Which would include adult fortunes or outcomes based on my own life or story. In addtion to exploring the social ideas of our culture of "bigger is better."

The fortune teller or a cootie catcher (sometimes called a scrunchie and a chatterbox in Australia), is an origami device used in fortune-telling games by children. A player asks a question, and the holder of the device answers using a regular algorithm. The fortunes written inside can be anything, but what they are determines what questions a player can ask.
