First Kiss

Video Installation
(Video Projection, Sound, 1.5" Monitor, Saltblock)

First Kiss tells the story of a childhood dare to lick a salt block. It alludes to an event from my childhood and deals with the notion of vunerability both as a child and as an adult.

Technically, this installation involves a projected video narration in a hay-filled room. Speakers are placed underneath the hay, and quiet spoken text from Alice in Wonderland wispers in the space. For example, the words, "eat me" and "drink me".

The 1.5" monitor is submerged into a salt block. The salt lick is in front of the large projection, making it necessary for the viewer to reenact my experience by getting down on all fours to symbolically take the dare. While in that position, the viewer is exposed to the aroma of the hay and minerals while experiencing the tactile and auditory characteristics of the environment.
